everything you need to know to travel to
los roques

Los Roques is a Caribbean archipelago off the coast of Venezuela, known for its crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and vibrant marine life. It’s the perfect destination for adventure seekers, kitesurfers, and anyone looking to disconnect in a natural paradise.

How to Get to Los Roques
The fastest and most convenient way is by flying from Simón Bolívar National Airport in La Guaira, just 30 minutes from Caracas. If you're coming from abroad, you'll land at Simón Bolívar International Airport and easily connect to the national terminal for your flight to Los Roques. While there are maritime options, flying is the most recommended to make the most of your time in the archipelago. At Play Los Roques, we can help you organize your flights and transfers so you don’t have to worry about a thing.

Getting Around the Archipelago
Gran Roque is the main island, home to the airport and most accommodations. It’s perfect for walking and relaxing, but the real adventure begins when you explore the 200+ surrounding cays. We offer both private and shared boat services to help you discover the islands comfortably and freely.

When to Visit Los Roques
The best time to visit is between December and May, when the weather is more stable and rain is minimal. For kitesurfers, January to June is ideal thanks to steady winds, especially strong in January, February, and March.

What to Pack
Bring light clothing, swimwear, sunscreen, and any medications you normally use. Gran Roque has small shops, a pharmacy, restaurants, and a basic medical clinic for minor needs.

Park Fees and Taxes
Upon arrival, you’ll need to pay an entry fee to the Los Roques National Park. The cost is $50 USD for international travelers and $15 USD for venezuelans. Prices may vary slightly depending on age. You can pay with cards, cash, or other electronic methods. You’ll receive a wristband that must be worn during your stay. Upon departure, there’s also an airport exit fee: $6 USD for international travelers and $3 USD for venezuelans. Some airlines include this in your ticket, but it’s best to confirm in advance.

Must-Do Activities
Los Roques is a dream for kitesurfing, snorkeling, sport fishing, and boat trips. One of the top experiences is the Kite Safari, a guided journey for intermediate and advanced kitesurfers who want to ride between cays, exploring flat waters, small waves, and coral banks. You'll likely spot marine life and enjoy breathtaking views.
