Los Roques for Kitesurfers: A Guide for Beginners and Intermediates
If you're new to kitesurfing or want to improve your skills, Los Roques is the perfect place to learn and practice in a safe and stunning environment. At Grupo Play, we offer lessons tailored to your level, led by certified instructors with the experience to guide you from day one until you're confidently riding.
Where to Learn
Our main beginner spot is Saki Saki island, known for its shallow waters and steady winds, ideal conditions for your first kitesurfing experiences. Our instructors are always by your side, with boat support to ensure your safety at all times.

Gear and Support
We use modern, regularly updated equipment, renewing it each season to ensure you’re riding with the latest kiteboarding technology. We work with top brands like Core Kites, known for their quality and performance. Our instructors tailor the lessons to your level and follow strict safety and rescue protocols, so you can learn with complete peace of mind.
Course Structure and Progression
On average, it takes between 5 to 8 hours to stand on the board. We recommend an 8-hour course, usually completed over 3 to 5 days, to make real progress.
Theory and Kite Control
Your first class focuses on theory: understanding wind dynamics, how to handle the kite, and essential safety measures. You'll then move on to land-based kite control to build confidence.
Body Dragging
Next, you'll enter the water for body dragging, using the kite’s pull to move through the water without a board. This helps you master both body and kite control.
Board Work
Once you've nailed body dragging, you'll start using the board. We’ll teach you how to stand up and maintain balance, and then how to ride upwind and navigate freely with the wind.
When you're ready, you can join one of our signature Kite Safaris, a unique adventure where you ride across the most beautiful cays of Los Roques, guided by locals and supported by our team.
